Ranchers Bees Got The Wrong Welcome, A Mauling. Picture Story

Life for recently promoted teams in the Euromatch Nigerian Premier Football League is a mixed lot. Some stand tall, talk tough, earn points on their first day or fall on their swords.
After years away from the top flight of Nigerian football, Ranchers Bees made their massively anticipated return, following revival and promotion under the Sadiq Umar led ownership structure.

But at this level, life comes at you hard and fast and fairly tales end faster than they begin. Ranchers Bees went ahead in the 7th minute courtesy a Jude Okorie goal that stunned the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to silence, with supporters questioning if Ikorodu's luck with rebuilding teams with totally unknown players has finally run out
You see, Ikorodu City has built a reputation over time, one backed by brutal success at scouting the best grass root talent available in the country and giving them a platform to not just play in the top flight, but to thoroughly punish the big boys with athleticism and stamina, and today was not the day that folklore would be broken by a newly promoted side.

Ranchers Bees yielded two thirds of the pitch back to Ikorodu after they went ahead, a mortal crime you never commit with the Oga Boys. Umar Dan'Azumi made the boys from Kaduna pay for timidity in the 30th minute, firing into the top corner after some shambolic defending by the visitors.
Usman Abdallah, astute tactician and a legendary coach in the league, could not answer one question on the day. Why the heck is my midfield totally blown to pieces and why the heck are we yielding two thirds of the pitch to a team with players I have never heard their names before?

Without answers to those questions readily available, Ikorodu ran riot, moving the ball from left to right, dribbling at will, and leaving the match announcer Ope (he still owes me a drink by the way) with a permanent boner as he imagined the roasting he will deliver on X to the handler of the Ranchers Bees 🐝 page.
The third goal had a lot of eye lashes flustered, but with the benefit of hindsight, the referee was spot on, as the ball struck the hand of the defender in an unnatural position, gifting Farouk the opportunity to start his era as captain of Ikorodu City with a goal.
